BASIC

PURPOSE:
Transports
patients from various hospital departments to and from the Diagnostic
Services Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school
graduate or equivalent with successful completion of a patient care
aide-training program or equivalent.
2. Must be
physically able to move carriages, wheel chairs, and help lift patients.
3. CPR Certification
within 90 days of hire.

BASIC PURPOSE:
Transports
patients from various hospital departments to and from the Diagnostic Imaging
Department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent
walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting,
grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing
duties throughout the work shift.
Must
be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights, with varying
amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis.
Must
have excellent hearing ability.
Must
be able to read and write legibly in English.
Visual
acuity must be within normal range.
Must
have reading and comprehension ability.
Must

be able to perform heavy work:
Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to
50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to
move objects.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must
be capable of handling information of a confidential nature.
Must
have the ability to work successfully under highly stressful conditions, and
must be capable of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a
constant basis.
Must
have the ability to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and
procedures.
Must
have effective reading and comprehension skills.
Must
have strong communication skills, written and verbal.
Must
be able to work weekends, holidays, and all shifts.
Must
have ability to prioritize tasks.

to high stress and constant interruptions.

to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

to toxic gas, fumes, and odors.

I. DOCUMENTATION:
A. Maintains accurate records of patient
transport to/from the D.S. Department
according to Department P/P Manual.

II. EDUCATION:
A. Provides indirect supervision and
participates in documentation and evaluation of clinical performance of
student radiographers.

III. COMMUNICATION:
A. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills
necessary to communicate and provide a safe environment for the
infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult,

geriatric patient per the established age-specific education/ standard.

B.
Utilizes RIS to check in and check out patients.

C.
Identify the patient per policy and procedure by verification of name
and birthdate.

D.
Perform handoff communication
(SHARED policy) when transporting patients.

IV. EQUIPMENT:
A. Demonstrates proficiency with regards to

use of the following according to equipment manuals:
1. Stretchers/Carts

2. Wheelchairs

3. Portable Oxygen Tanks

4. Lateral Transfer Devices

5. Personal Protection Equipment

B. Demonstrates basic knowledge regarding

transport of patients with the following support devices:
1. IVAC, other med. pumps

2. Chest, etc. drainage devices

3. Various catheters

4. Restraints

V. PROCEDURES:
A. Transports patients to/from Nursing Units
and Diagnostic Services Department according to Department P/P Manual
