Emergency Preparedness & Response Program Associate

Join our team! We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic person to help support our Medical Reserve Corps and Emergency Preparedness & Response programs. When a disaster or public health emergency happens, it is critical that we are prepared to respond to protect Thurston County residents from potential health hazards.
The AmeriCorps VISTA member will serve in the Thurston County Public Health and Social Services Department. This is a full-time, one-year position - November 12, 2019 through November 10, 2020. A living allowance and eligible benefits are available through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. To learn more about AmeriCorps, visit the Washington Service Corps website. The Emergency Preparedness & Response Program Associate will: Maintain and expand network of partners working in disaster preparedness in Thurston County. Attend regularly scheduled community preparedness meetings and participate in coordinated planning with partners. Support the Thurston County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and activities. Recruit and maintain MRC general membership. Support scheduled drills, activities, and activation of the MRC. Lead subcommittee team work. Prepare regular and special program reports and monthly e-newsletter. Implement community events and coordination of public health initiative activities supporting preparedness and health. Schedule, coordinate, and arrange facilities and equipment needs and estimate associated cost for training and drill exercise supplies. Support department staff with other outreach and evaluation activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications and Traits of the ideal candidate: Enthusiastic and able to embrace challenges, be professional and friendly, demonstrate commitment to workplace collaboration. Ability to maintain professional demeanor in stressful situations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with tact, diplomacy and clarity to multiple audiences. Ability to maintain confidentiality, and adherence to legal and ethical requirements. Ability to organize, prioritize and coordinate work, research and prepare reports. Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. Must be able to pass a background check and comply with a smoke-free, drug-free workplace. Must be over the age of 18. Must possess a current and valid Washington driver's license. Education level of an associate degree or higher.
