Business Development Associate

This position will be based in any Advarra offices around the network (MD, PA, OH, NC, WA) General Summary: The Business Development Associate is responsible for sales and management of external opportunities, the assessment of customers through direct and indirect interaction, and business/strategic planning small accounts primarily submitting 1-5 sites studies.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities Sales & Management of External Opportunities Supporting incoming leads from “micro” companies and PI-initiated researchers requesting more information about our services Prospect for new business through traditional sales activities such as cold calling Assist clients operationally with their submissions and support them through helping them get answers to their regulatory questions Further existing strategies and develop new strategies to increase revenue and profitability from existing customers Partner with other Advarra business units such as IBC and Consulting to ensure penetration of Advarra’s other services into our customers Utilize Salesforce to manage accounts, opportunities, contacts and all corresponding activities Assessment of Customers Use networks of internal and external contacts to identify and create opportunities for growth Work directly with Client Service Coordinators, IT, and other service delivery teams to understand product service gaps and then drive solutions through business development activities, driving towards completing the appropriate transaction Determine client’s research acumen and refer to consulting to help them with needs such as protocol and ICF development Business / Strategic Planning Work with leadership to review the business and hold frequent strategic discussions with cross-functional teams Other duties will include working with key internal parties to identify promising segments or technologies, and evaluating strategic fit and potential for operational synergy Budget Responsibilities: Provide timely expense reports Planning travel that allows for maximized customer interaction/resources spent Activities on the Business Development Team Participate in training initiatives as part of the BD team Other: Position requires travel –5-10% of the time Job Requirement Education/ Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities BS in Business, Marketing, or Life Science (MBA preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience 2+ years’ experience within an operations function within the research industry 2+ years’ experience within a sales function within the healthcare / life sciences / research industries 3+ years’ experience in client-facing role of IRB Services such as marketing IRB services Strong understanding of IRB operations and regulatory Effective interpersonal selling skills Strong business acumen Strong verbal and written communication skills Proficient in using CRM systems (preferably Salesforce.com) Selling to established customers and in identifying and selling to new customers Possess a solid understanding of the clinical research industry, preferably in study participant protection, or a background that would lead to an easy understanding of human research protection Effectively identifying customer needs Effective at working remotely Competencies Entrepreneurial Orientation Results Orientation Build Collaborative Relationships Persuasive Communication Rapport building Active listening Self Confidence Physical and Mental Requirements: Sit or stand for extended periods of time at stationary work station Regularly carry, raise, and lower objects of up to 10 Lbs Focus and attention to tasks and responsibilities Verbal communication; listening and understanding, responding and speaking EEO Statement
