JOB DESCRIPTIONProgram: Head Start A. General Statement: Preschool teachers provide Head Start services to children and their families. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of children in the Center at all times. The majority of a teachers time is spent in the classroom and the remainder of time is allocated for planning, documentation, interactions with parents, and meeting with partner services.
In addition, teachers share a site-specific team job description that includes recruitment, newsletter, parent group, and facility responsibilities. This position requires some evening and occasional weekend hours. The teacher is supervised by the team manager and is responsible to the team manager and content area managers.B.Essential FunctionsSupport and implement the Professionals Code of Ethical Conduct and the Positive Guidance Policy of the program. In conjunction with parents, team members, content area managers, and the team manager, develop and implement classroom curriculum consistent with Head Start Performance Standards and Capstone Head Start content area plans.
Provide the required number of days of center-based services, parent conferences and home visits.Supervise childrens activities both on-site and off-site for safety. Create and maintain an atmosphere in which children and their parents feel welcome, valued, comfortable, and secure. Ensure that parents are kept informed about their childrens classroom experience. Participate in daily center-site maintenance and up-keep, the orderly and safe storage of materials and sanitation and cleanliness regulations according to Head Start Performance Standards and state licensing.Provide content area services to assigned families in health/nutrition, social services,oParent involvement, education/training, disabilities, and mental health in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and Capstone Head Start content area plans.
oGather health information and ensure that the required screenings are complete within 45 days of enrollment.Provide guidance and leadership in planning and implementing parent meetings and activities based on parent interest. Ensure that parents are aware of and supported in program governance activities such as parent groups, Policy Council and advisory committees. Maintain flexibility in scheduling activities for parents. Provide training and feedback to parents, volunteers and trainees.
Participate in the production of the monthly newsletter and other promotional materials.Adapt program services to the needs of families with a child or member with disabilities. Initiate or join the on-going efforts of other providers engaged with the family.Work with team manager, content area managers, consultants and community agencies to ensure effective and coordinated services delivery. Collaborate with specialists in an ongoing manner to ensure individual needs of the child and the family are addressed.Responsible for the recruitment of families and maintenance of full enrollment and wait lists.Maintain complete and confidential records on each child/family, as requested by team manager, content area managers and state licensing regulators. Maintain daily attendance records and appropriate follow up.
Enter and keep current family and child data on the management information software. Provide such statistical or other data as needed or requested. Maintain confidentiality of all Head Start child and family information.Participate in professional development activities including pre-service and monthly in-service training, staff meetings, team meetings and IEP mtgs. etc.
Meet with team manager monthly to review work, goals and professional development. Develop an individual professional development plan annually. Promote Head Start and Capstone positively and proactively in the community and at meetings and initiatives.C. Other Duties as Assigned
