Arlington County's Solid Waste Bureau (SWB)'s Environmental Management Office (EMO) is seeking a Management Analyst to coordinate and manage the education and outreach efforts in support of the programmatic goals of the SWB. The employee in this position must be proficient in various software programs related to designing and disseminating information effectively and efficiently.
Specific duties include:
Designing and producing all SWB educational and outreach materials, including: print brochures, posters, signs, flyers, decals, booklets, postcards, magnets, promotional giveaways and graphics for web and social media.
Managing day-to-day marketing of services and creating and implementing community outreach plans for EMO's programmatic areas: Residential, Multi-Family/Commercial, Facilities/Schools and Special Events. Expanding outreach efforts to ensure messaging reaches a diverse audience.
Assessing community conditions to inform effective education and outreach opportunities that support the County's waste reduction goals. Analyze market research to develop a strategic approach to engaging the public.
Collaborating with the Department of Environmental Services Communications & Engagement Team to:
seek input on SWB-related education and outreach initiatives;
create and implement communication and public engagement strategies for large scale projects;
disseminate timely messages regarding SWB services.
Designing and implementing feedback forms, interviews, and other assessment tools intended to improve understanding of the educational and behavioral effects of SWB program and activities.
Planning and organizing community outreach events and campaigns.
Collaborating with other County divisions and departments to create unique educational pieces that overlap with the SWB's goals and objectives.
Researching and maintaining knowledge on current environmental stewardship and education/outreach methods, strategies and programs.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Significant experience in graphic design;
Strong creative, analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and communication (written, verbal, and visual) skills;
Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Access and Publisher), and knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop?);
Ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative technical information, and complex ideas into formats that are easily understood by the general public;
Must be comfortable working in a highly collaborative and team-oriented environment; and
Must be able to communicate effectively to diverse groups and have a commitment to environmental stewardship.
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, graphic design, marketing, business administration or environmental studies, plus experience with graphic design and production of marketing material.
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Desirable: Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
Experience and Knowledge of sustainability, solid waste, and/or other environmental policies and programs;
A high level of computing ability; and
Demonstrated ability to design and produce visually stimulating materials for effective message communication will be necessary.
Please Note: You must provide three portfolio samples demonstrating your graphic design skills and one writing sample (3 - 5 pages in length) to be considered for this position.
The applicant must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. If the applicant possesses a license, the applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weeknight and weekend meetings events as directed.
