Our strong culture focuses on: teamworktransparencycreativity and collaboration that values differences,nimble learning We are seeking individuals interested in joining our team who are able to operate power tools and heavy equipment (chain saws, trimming and chipping machines, dump truck, loader, backhoe, motor grader, tractor w/attachments) and perform manual labor. As a maintenance operator, you will: respond to emergency roadway and severe weather events to prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal and other types of hazardous road conditionsattend work zone training, prepare work zones and perform traffic controldemonstrate proper work site protection techniques: identify workplace safety hazards, make suggestions for improvement, wear proper personal protection equipment, maintain current knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws and use equipment properly and safelyparticipate as a working team member performing manual labor including, clearing drainage, cutting brush, pot-hole patching, and fulfilling tasks required to complete road maintenance projectscomplete pre-trip inspections, perform preventive maintenance and operate power tools and light to heavy equipment. VDOT is an emergency response agency and this position is the core of this requirement, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations. Minimum Qualifications You are minimally qualified if you have: knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and programsknowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, and methodsdemonstrated experience in equipment operation comparable to that used in highway maintenance/construction activitiesability to perform heavy manual labor, including frequently lifting up to 50 lbsskill in the operation and maintenance of hand and power toolsvalid driver’s licenseability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 6 months of employment and maintain thereafterability to work in inclement weather and to respond to accidents, and emergency/disaster response, etc. during/after normal work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include: valid CDL or CDL Permitexperience with heavy manual labor and heavy equipment operationexperience performing preventive maintenance and minor equipment repairsexperience in emergency operations to include snow removal, storms and accident response and clean-upHigh school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for education.
