Floater/Substitute Teacher

The Children's Center, a non-profit agency, is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young children, one family at a time. Our mission is to nurture and educate children and their families. We provide opportunities for education, parenting support and resources to families in our communities.
The Children's Center Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides no cost services to qualifying families who reside in the community. Comprehensive services are provided to pregnant women and their partners and children from birth to 5. Child development, health and family services are provided through a variety of program options designed to meet the needs of low-income and at risk families.
This position is rotates between several functional areas and acts as a temporary substitute while a permanent employee is unable to perform their regularly assigned duties.
Teacher Assistant: Conducts small group activities while providing classroom coverage. Attends required training. Communicates with parents while providing classroom coverage. Ensures compliance with safety standards. Sanitizes classrooms at end-of-day; washes laundry. Prepares and serves snacks. Prepares incident reports. Changes diapers and assists with toilet training while providing classroom coverage. Monitors children in a variety of settings. Documents child arrival and departure while providing classroom coverage.
Administrative Assistant: Provides support for front desk/receptionist tasks. Opens buildings at the beginning of the work day; prepares computers for operation. Provides customer services; answers telephone and greet visitors; provides information and assistance; refers to appropriate personnel; takes messages and makes appointments. Prepares charts and packets. Maintains department files and records. Sorts and processes mail.
Bus Monitor: Rides a bus along an assigned route to monitor the safety of children. Enforces seal belt restraint rules. Reports broken or damages car seats to supervisor. Cleans the interior and exterior of bus. Provides care to children in transit as needed. Notifies parents when bus is behind schedule.
Cook Assistant: Assists with cooking meals in accordance with approved menus. Ensures compliance with Health Department requirements. Stores food in designated areas. Assists with cleaning work areas, tools and equipment; sanitizing kitchen. Assist in cleaning and restocking dishes, cups and utensils. Serves meals as needed. Removes garbage; cleans garbage containers. Assists in receiving food shipments. Assists with cleaning assigned facilities; cleans floors, windows, office, classrooms, appliances and bathrooms. Washes and restocks dishes.
Custodian: Empties and cleans waste receptacles; collects recyclables. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms; restocks restroom supplies. Sweeps, mops, vacuums, and buffs floors; spot-cleans carpets. Dusts and polishes furniture. Cleans windows and mirrors. Cleans blinds and window sills.
Performs other related duties.
Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices.
Knowledge of Children's Center policies and procedures.
Skill in the delivery of instruction to students.
Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
Guidelines include licensing requirements, Children's Center policies and procedures, and Health Department regulations. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
The work consists of related instructional and child-care duties. The unique needs of each child contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to assist in the teaching of children on an as needed basis. Success in this position results in the efficient and effective provision of programming to students.
Contacts are typically with co-workers, other center personnel, children, parents, volunteers, and members of the general public.
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, or to motivate or influence persons.

Job Qualifications:
The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
The work is typically performed in a classroom and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment used.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must have experience in working with young children.
Must be able to work effectively and harmoniously with client, staff members, and other professionals.
Must have a valid Drivers License.
Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification.
Must obtain Food Handlers Certification.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to perform basic computer applications such as utilizing Time Clock software.
Working knowledge of MS Office suite products.
