Refugee Youth & Education Coordinator

Job description          

Under the supervision of the Education Program Supervisor, the Refugee Youth and Education Coordinator is responsible to administer existing youth services for school-aged refugee youth ages 3-18. This includes coordination of school and community partnerships, coordinating school enrollments/ orientation with the casework team, and increasing student’s access to supplementary support programs such as after-school and tutoring, parental engagement, kindergarten readiness, and college and career readiness activities. The Refugee Youth and Education Coordinator will also work with the Education Program Supervisor to develop new innovative program areas and to increase educational access for students within and outside of IRC SLC’s programming.
Major Responsibilities: Coordinate with the IRC casework team and partnering school districts on initial school enrollments as well as re-enrollments each year to ensure success for all school-aged refugee youth in case management. Provide training, resources, and support for school enrollments for the casework team. Create sustainable processes for individual student follow-up with the health and casework teams to address specific needs related to health, behavioral, or home-life. Partner with after-school and summer programs to increase refugee school-aged student’s access to available supplementary programs. Partner with early education programs to increase student’s participation in pre-school. Supervise, support and regularly communicate with volunteers, AmeriCorps members and interns to carry out youth program services. Maintain up to date, timely and complete data tracking in Salesforce, ETO and other databases. Work with supervisor to produce bi-annual and annual reports and contribute to program design as well as and oversee in-kind donation request and distribution to clients. Work closely with casework and school district staff to determine appropriate placements and referrals for youth with special needs and 504 plans; document client attendance/progress. Track high school student’s progress towards graduation, provide necessary education/support for college and career access; maintain communication with school counselors and parents regarding student’s progress. Engage in community collaboration meetings including bi-monthly Collective Impact meetings, school district education equity meetings, and monthly IRC Youth Community of Practice calls to support collaboration, resource/tool sharing and community level impacts locally and across the IRC network. Participate in all staff meetings, trainings, office support, reception coverage and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in related field; and two years of supervisory and youth experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be extremely flexible, able to manage time effectively with multiple priorities. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. Strong computer skills particularly in MS Office applications; experience with databases. Must have reliable transportation with valid driver’s license and insurance coverage. Fluency in written and spoken English, bilingual ability preferred in any refugee language. Able to work well with people, such as refugee clients, local service providers, community partners and field professionals. Professional, friendly and courteous attitude a must.
