Operations Manager, Weekends

Job description          

Responsible for the prompt daily oversight and care of the physical property (non-horticultural areas) of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, one of the premier gardens in the US. Assures the physical property–buildings, homes, restrooms, offices, food service areas, and storage facilities, etc.—are ready for public and/or private usage daily. Directly supervise the custodial staff and set ups staff to assure assigned facility service responsibilities are successfully completed. Work Schedule is FRIDAY through TUESDAY. Directly supervise the Operations Supervisors, janitorial staff, Set Ups Supervisor and set up staff. Attend operations/facility staff meetings to assure routine care, maintenance, repair, and assignment of special project tasks are efficiency and effectively performed. Assist the Director of Facility Operations and VP of Property Development with ensuring that all operational issues are addressed quickly. Work with the Senior Facilities Manager as needed executing repairs within the property as needed. Participate in, and lead as directed, operational coordination projects like 12 Days of Christmas exhibit. Work with other departments to coordinate logistics for various events and serve as a liaison between departments, especially in project and festival execution. Assist the Exhibit Technician with making repairs to the exhibits and ensure that they have all the supplies necessary to complete their tasks in a timely manner. Oversee projects, repairs, and construction work as needed. Review the work of operations contractors to ensure proper completion. Coordinate with other departments on repair or other projects that may impact their work or may create down time. Work with vendors and colleagues from the IT department to ensure that all interactive touch screens are working and coordinate repairs as needed, prepare weekly report identifying units that are non-functional. Respond to emergency situations, i.e. weather, power outages, plumbing, HVAC or electrical issues in an appropriate and timely manner; resolve minor problems. Courteously and promptly interact with guests related to incidents or concerns Oversee monthly counts of janitorial supplies and order additional supplies as needed. Process and code all invoices upon receipt for payment. Monitor the DeGolyer House and the Camp House, make repairs when able, and out-source when appropriate. Act as Manager on Duty as needed. SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree desired. 4+ years in facility operations management preferred, with 2 years of supervisory experience. Experience delivering excellent customer service in public assembly venues. Good verbal and good written communication skills using correct grammatical and professional writing techniques. Basic computer skills; good understanding of facility management/janitorial best practices. Background experience in mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repair desirable. Work flexible hours, including nights/weekends as needed; availability to respond to emergencies at any point. Lift up to 30 pounds, climb ladders and stairs; repeatedly walk, bend, twist and stand throughout the property in all weather conditions as necessary in regard to oversight of maintenance and daily operations in all facility service areas.
