Job Posting Title: Desktop Support Trainee - Hiring Department: Technology Resources - Position Open To: All Applicants - Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40 - FLSA Status: Non-Exempt - Earliest Start Date: Sep 01, 2019 - Position Duration: Expected to Continue - Location: UT MAIN CAMPUS - Job Description: This is an entry-level position that will provide support for the Desktop Support Specialists by keeping track of computer inventory, imaging new systems, surplus old computers, and deploying computers across campus. - Job Details: Responsibilities Provide support for imaging computers by ensuring the latest image is available, coordinate with the Fleet Team when needed to update the OS or third party software. Following checklists and ensuring each computer is prepared for deployment. Receive deliveries, ensure assets are tagged properly and in accordance with UT Policy, open computer boxes to remove contents, label and coordinate delivery to the client, track inventory of assets, and maintain the asset database. Lifting or carrying equipment to multiple locations on campus when needed. Provide supplemental project support when or if we need to install any packages to thwart a cyber attack. Required Qualifications Knowledge and experience of computer and peripheral operations, installation, and troubleshooting. Knowledge of directory services and remote access tools. Demonstrated ability to be a team player. Demonstrated excellence in IT customer service and or demonstrated excellence in a help desk environment. Outstanding communication and organizational skills. Ability to learn and retain new technical concepts quickly. Good work ethic. Experience installing and supporting hardware, software and networked systems in a multi-protocol environment. Experience configuring and supporting Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of desktop management applications including SCCM, Bomgar, Active Directory Group Policy, Absolute Manage and Deep Freeze. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications More than two years of the required experience noted above. Demonstrated ability supporting computers, printers and other peripherals. Demonstrated ability providing end-user support for both Microsoft Windows and Macintosh desktop computers. Demonstrated ability managing Microsoft Windows desktops in an Active Directory environment. Demonstrated competency using desktop imaging software. Experience using remote management tools. Experience providing technical support to faculty and staff at an educational institution and understanding of UT Austin policies and procedures for desktop security. Demonstrated ability to work with little or no supervision. Evidence of good organizational and work related documentation skills. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
