The position of Water Billing Technician involves extensive field work, routine clerical work, and semi-skilled utility work on behalf of the Water Billing Department.
This position requires an individual who possesses, or has the ability to possess, a working knowledge of utility meters to include: data gathering, simple maintenance, and basic computing skills. The position requires an individual who also possesses the ability to work during inclement weather conditions, the ability to work independently and efficiently without supervision, and the ability to troubleshoot basic customer issues such as leaks, high consumption, and meter functionality. As well as, the ability to exercise and discern good judgment, ability to work in difficult situations, and the ability to resolve conflict peacefully according to department and or city policies & procedures.
Additionally, a Water Billing Technician may be required to perform routine clerical work inside the Water Billing department to aid Customer Service.
Works under the general supervision of the Water Billing Manager.
As a member of the water billing team, Water Billing Technicians must possess a general knowledge of utility billing in the field of meter reading, consumption reporting, data retrieval and data processing for the purpose of aiding in billing accurately and efficiently.
Responds to service order requests for disconnections, reconnections, and other miscellaneous water billing service order requests, as assigned.
Monitor route areas for damaged, missing or tampered meters.
Maintenance and upkeep of assigned tools and equipment
Manually verify meter readings, meter and transponder information, and record any indications of possible leaks as assigned via request orders.
Perform disconnections and re-connections of services that have been interrupted due to non- payment during our weekly disconnection process.
Work On-call hours as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma/GED is required.
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Valid Driver’s License
General computer skills
General knowledge in utility billing
Ability to communicate effectively and establish successful working relationships
Ability to work under pressure and with frequent interruptions while accomplishing all tasks.
Ability to multi-task
Ability to work with angry or difficult customers
