With this paidinternship opportunity your summer will be full of endless networking opportunities, field learning experiences and professional development.
Starting on either May 26th or June 8th, Gridterns experience activities such as attending first day orientation, working on marketable projects deliverables within your department, volunteer opportunities, site visits, a range of Lunch and Learn sessions and much more!

Opportunities May Include
Responsibilities vary on your area of interest and department placement. We hire from a range of majors for our Gridtern program. See below for some examples:
Civil Engineering Structural Engineering
Perform substation design tasks encompassing functional layouts, material take offs, cost estimating, and bid document preparation for projects.
Design functions in alliance with National Grid’s structural plan, including removal and maintenance of the electric overhead transmission lines.
Past Departments Included: Property Services, Capital Projects, Contractor Oversight, Substation and Design
Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Technology Power Engineering
Ensure capital projects meet time and cost specifications in accordance with the Investment Scheme Procedure.
Responsible for the design, development of substations ranging from 5kV to 345kV across our service territory.
Past Departments Included: Transmission Planning, Distribution Design, Control and Integration, Protection Engineering
Perform analytics on National Grid’s waste reduction initiative and assist in employee outreach and engagement to increase awareness in proper waste disposal.
Past Departments included: Customer Energy Integration/Management, Project Planning, Resource Planning
Mechanical Engineering Material Science
Create designs for large scale projects allowing for the safe reliable delivery of natural gas to customers.
Analyze and select gas main segments in need of replacement.
Past Departments included: Gas Planning and Performance, Construction, Gas Investment, Grid Modernization Execution
National Grid’s Talent Acquisition Team shares qualified candidates’ applications with departments participating in the Gridtern program based on the interests you have noted in your resume and cover letter. Please note: if advanced to the next step in the selection process, you will be asked to submit your candidate profile to a specific department(s). At that time, you will receive more information on the department, role, location, and detailed responsibilities of the position(s).
Currently have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA (unless current first year student)
Have accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
Authorized to work in the United States for the entire duration of the internship
Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2020 Semester
Some intern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license with a safe driving history. This qualification will be included in department specific intern position(s) during the next step of the selection process
