Digital Archivist

Description History Nebraska is seeking a self-motivated, creative problem-solver to lead our digital preservation initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Digital Archivist is responsible for developing and maintaining a system for collecting, processing, preserving, and making born-digital materials accessible to the citizens of Nebraska. Increasing digital capabilities is one of History Nebraska's key strategic goals and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to help shape the organization's digital future. Compensation is commensurate with experience and education, if approved. History Nebraska is a statewide educational institution that connects people to the past through our library and research center, conservation facility, interpretive sites, and the state archeology and historic preservation offices. We are in the information business and use technology to connect people with historical resources. History Nebraska preserves and interprets our state's past, contributes to the education of its citizens, and uses the tools of history to shape a better future for all Nebraskans.

Job location is 1500 R Street, Downtown. Examples of Work Coordinates the acquisition, processing, and cataloging of digital collections including managing equipment for forensic evaluation and isolation of incoming digital files and training staff on the same.Ensures secure discovery and access to born digital materials.Works with curators and catalogers to help determine the best means of providing access to digital materials.Establishes metadata standards and ensures they are met. • Develops and implements preservation, migration, and reformatting plans for digital collections. • Creates and implement policies and procedures for managing born-digital materials for ingest, storage, preservation, organization, description, and access.
Coordinates the acquisition and maintenance of the technological infrastructure needed to support digital preservation with the Information Technology team.Participates in activities related to providing online access to collections. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Masters of Library Science or a Masters of Library and Information Systems from an American Library Association Accredited Library School, plus one year of relevant experience. Experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED: Three years' experience working with digital collections in an archival setting or equivalent. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Experience with digital collection activities such as file integrity checks, migration, and conversion. • Demonstrated knowledge of archival theory and practice, and computer forensics.
Experience developing and implementing digital archives processes and workflows.Awareness of copyrights and restrictions or permissions related to legacy and born-digital resources.Ability to work collaboratively with others and across multiple teams.
