Maintenance - Maintenance Technician

Position Summary
Reporting to a Lead Person, Maintenance or the Maintenance Manager, Maintenance B Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment associated with operating the plant. The Maintenance B mechanic will obtain training and skills equivalent to a maintenance specialist.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for plant equipment greasing.
Assists, troubleshoots and conducts repairs in mechanical systems, mobile equipment and physical structures.
Generate necessary work orders and checks completed maintenance work.
Performs preventative maintenance, including routine maintenance on mobile equipment.
Performs arc welding, acetylene brazing, cutting torch, and routine layout.
Assist in layout, fabrication and construction of equipment, machinery, and grounds facility.
Dismantles machines or equipment, replaces defective parts in motors, and adjusts feed mechanisms.
Cleans and lubricates machine parts such as shafts, pulleys, and gears.
Assists in performing plumbing and pipefitting and related work in installing, repairing, or re-routing water, sewage, air and gas pipes.
Performs minor electrical repairs such as replacing starters and motors.
Removes dust, dirt, grease, and waste material from machines.
Connects wire to motors, fixtures and other electrical equipment, replaces switches and fuses.
Keeps areas clean and free of clutter.
Observes all safety rules and regulations.
Work maintenance call in’s.
Performs any of the duties Maintenance as needed and another task as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Must act in accordance with WE CARE, Oil-Dri Lessons Learned and Team Mate of Today expectations.
Participates in improvement activities.
Other actions as needed to satisfy company goals, process, and procedures and to uphold values inherent to Oil-Dri.
Actively seek and identify improvement opportunities to reduce losses, and implement measures, in coordination with the full team to affect those improvements.
Must complete 2-year technical degree in first 2-3 years on employment
Must obtain the skill set at a level of Industrial Journeyman Mechanical within 3 years.
Qualifications
Must understand all safety requirements and other communications.
Must meet the skill assessment requirements.
Must be able to read, comprehend, and act on product specifications, SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures), PWI (Process Work Instructions), AIQ processes, and similar documents.
Must demonstrate mechanical ability.
Basic industrial electricity knowledge.
Willingness to progress maintenance skill level to a maintenance specialist and attend classes and seminars to enhance mechanical skills.
Good oral and written communication skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift.
Must be able to frequently carry up to 50 pounds frequently.
Must be able to withstand operation of geared equipment and heavy physical labor.
Bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, walking, climbing stairways and ladders frequently.
Must be able to work at heights of 100 feet or greater.
Must be able to hear radio and telephone communication.
Must be able to function in the required role while wearing appropriate PPE including, but not limited to: Safety glasses, hearing protection, dust mask, protective coveralls, and pother as may be required by a hot/cold, dusty, loud industrial environment.
