Topsfield Elementary SchoolsTitle: Extended Studies Teacher: Grades 4-6 (.5FTE)Qualifications: Masters degree or equivalent preferredValid Massachusetts Elementary Teacher Professional License, Academically Advanced certification preferred Evidence of successful teaching at the elementary level especially with academically advanced students Demonstrate ability to individualize and make use of techniques for teaching the academically advancedExperience with the administration of tools that identify academically advanced studentsStrong communication skillsMeets the DESE requirements to be considered a Highly Qualified TeacherReports to: Building PrincipalEvaluated by: Building Principal and Director of CurriculumJob Goal: To meet the needs of students who are academically advanced by providing advanced curriculum, enrichment units, instruction in process and effective growth experiencesPerformance Responsibilities: Develop program objectives, enrichment units and process curricula for extended studies program Develop lesson plans, including activities and materials, and implement objectives through individual and small group activitiesSupervise the identification process of academically advanced children in the district Employ a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and media, consistent with capabilities of the individuals or student group involvedMonitor students progress, keep appropriate records, and prepare reports on a regular basis Serve as a resource person in gifted education for all district personnelCommunicate with students, parents, regular classroom teachers and administrators through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the extended studies program Assist in scheduling academic modulesMaintain professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills Work Year: 181 School Days + 2 Professional Development Days = 183 DaysMiddleton Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action EmployerIt is the policy of the Middleton Public Schools not to discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin, color, homelessness, sexual orientation, age or disability in its education programs, services, activities or employment practices.
