Security Operations Officer (Security) 40 hours/week All Shifts

JOB SUMMARY: Provide safe and secure work environment for hospital staff, patients, and the public. Perform all duties of Security Officers as well as coordinating Hazardous Materials Management functions, computerized tour systems, and other special projects as needed. Exercise good judgement in maintaining security and safety for the hospital. Anticipate potentially dangerous situations and act to mitigate or minimize hazard. Requires knowledge of supervisory and security principles, common safety hazards in the clinical environment. In-depth knowledge of JCAHO, NFPA, and other applicable codes. Limited protected health information access. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Perform day shift Security Officer functions, patrolling parking lots, touring the facility, responding to calls, and investigating disturbances, accidents, and criminal acts on hospital premises. Respond to urgent calls concerning activations of fire alarms, personal protection alarms, workplace violence, and other emergency situations. Operate the shuttle service as needed. Program and maintain the MSDS Online computer system, update hazardous materials database as needed, and conduct hazardous materials assessments. Program and maintain the computerized ‘GuardPlus’ Security Rounds Management System. Prepare reports for management and performance improvement. Act as chief of the ‘CODE ORANGE’ response team for hazardous materials emergencies; conduct meetings and drills for responders. Coordinate the activities of all ‘hazardous materials’ related emergency response. Assist in all activations of the hospital emergency management program. Act as section leader for security, access control, and other areas, as needed. Conduct Safety and Security training programs for the general hospital staff. Coordinate initial and on-going training programs for Security Officers. Provide non-violent crisis intervention training to hospital staff. Certification in pressure point control tactics and use of oleoresin capsicum aerosol spray. Available for call-in during emergency or disaster situations. Assist in coordination of activities during emergencies.

Required Skills
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Maintains a valid driver’s license. EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of a Professional Security Officer’s program or Law Enforcement Academy preferred. EXPERIENCE: Three years’ experience in a security related field, hospital security and/or law enforcement experience preferred.
