Duties Summary This position is located at Robley Rex Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Louisville, KY. The Food Service Worker position is a full-time food service operation in the Nutrition and Food Services. Work is performed with identified steps and/or sequences. The work assignment may be during breakfast, lunch, dinner, or rotating shifts.
Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to) Sets-up tray lines, steam table, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food items; Provides serves for food tray assembly line by placing uniform portions of food on plates; Brew coffee, assemble and toss fresh fruit or green salads in quantity using prepared dressings and portions; Makes cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients and pack box lunches; Performs heavy duty cleaning tasks, e.g. cleaning ceilings and exhaust, hood, moving equipment, and washing floors and walls, move heavy garbage cans, with assistance as necessary, when collecting and transferring trash from the work area; Assist with loading and unloading of food transportation containers; Delivers and retrieve meal trays to/from the patient's bedside or dining room; Performs other duties as assigned.

Some lifting of moderate weight is required. The work is performed in a well-lighted, well ventilated kitchen setting, this is subject to usual hazards associated with the setting, i.e. temperature ranges, cuts, burns, spills, etc. There may be contacts with contagious diseases.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Additional information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
