Grounds/Maintenance Worker

Job description          

SUMMARY:
Performs grounds keeping, snow removal, maintenance tasks, and set-ups on campus. Reports to the Grounds General Supervisor. Works 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
—Maintains snow and ice removal from the campus utilizing plow truck, tractors, commercial snow blowers, liquid de-icer units, salt spreaders, and snow shovels.
—Paints campus facilities, including exterior and interior.
—Maintains campus lawn and planted areas utilizing commercial lawn mowers, lawn tractors, push mowers, and weed eaters to ensure a neat and orderly campus appearance.
—Performs landscape renovations and new installations identifying appropriate planting parameters.
—Performs demolition and clean-up projects necessary for renovation of office areas and departments.
—Performs Spring and Fall grounds clean-up activities on campus.
—Performs office and area moves utilizing box truck, pick-up truck, appliance movers, dollies, and flatbed carts.
—Maintains equipment to support maintenance, lawn, and winter activities.
—Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications —High school diploma or GED required.
—Two years of institutional grounds or combination of institutional grounds and maintenance related experience.
—Ability to read and interpret material labeling and Material Safety Data Sheets.
—Knowledge of, and ability to operate, grounds keeping equipment (lawn mowers, tractors, snow plows, hand tools, pressure washers, power sweepers, etc.)
—Ability to perform preventive and light maintenance on grounds equipment.
—Ability to attain and maintain certification as a Registered Technician for the application of agricultural chemicals.
—Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
—Knowledge of plant cultivation, fertilizers, and maintenance.
—Ability to read and interpret material labeling and Material Safety Data Sheets.
—Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics. Preferred Qualifications Working Conditions / Physical Demands Salary Range $15.30/hr. $31,824.00/annual Salary Plan SM Salary Grade 52 FLSA Non-Exempt Work Location South Bend campus.
