Terms and Conditions: Coverage for a leave of absence, October 21, 2019 – April 20, 2020.
Salary: $22 - $25 an hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF, is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, Ill., a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 75 clubs and activities, and 29 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for post-secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 94% graduation rate.

Position Summary:
Highly confidential position with responsibility to provide administrative support to the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and daily HR operations. The incumbent must understand and follow procedures in accordance with Board policies, regulations and district/departmental procedures, ensuring that operations within the department are carried out with the highest level of quality and customer service.

Responsibilities: Provide confidential administrative support related to a variety of Human Resources operations and special projects. Provide a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for visitors to the Department of Human Resources by promptly and courteously assisting them with personnel-related questions. Respond to telephone, email, and in-person inquiries by providing information or directing the inquiry to an appropriate HR team member. Research a variety of information for the purpose of answering inquiries and/or making recommendations and/or addressing a variety of personnel issues. Arrange meetings, schedule appointments, reserve meeting/event space, coordinate travel and conference arrangements. Schedule, plan and coordinate special events for the Human Resources Department (recruitment, new hire orientation, trainings, negotiations and committee meetings, annual Holiday Tea, annual Retiree Breakfast). Conduct employment verifications, background checks and candidate reference checks. Organize and maintain the Human Resources filing system; ensure accuracy and completeness of confidential personnel files and employee records; file and retrieve documents. Prepare a variety of correspondence and departmental forms. Comply and analyze data and prepare a variety of reports as requested. Assist in the creation and maintenance of information databases and comparability data reports for use in negotiations as needed. Complete a high volume of computer work using District computer programs to input high volumes of data with speed and accuracy, including confidential data, in an environment with constant interruptions. Process incoming and outgoing mail. Maintain inventory of supplies and materials for the department and prepare requisitions for purchase orders as needed. Coordinate and track required trainings using the district-approved electronic system. Maintain the Human Resources website and update information and forms as necessary. Assist with the preparation and management of the human resource department budget. Preparation of purchase orders and payment authorizations. Serve as backup to other HR team members during leave periods and heavy volume. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge of HR functional operations and experience working with HR Information Systems, preferably within a public school setting. Knowledge and demonstrated skills in data compiling and processing and data base management methods and practices. Knowledge and experience with state and federal regulations and reporting requirements desired. Working knowledge of the Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) Ability to work with and secure sensitive and confidential information. Exemplary customer service skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent project management skills Advanced principles of office administration and systems, office technology, and work flow. Advanced office procedures, including filing systems, record keeping systems, business correspondence, and reporting formats. Advanced computer operating techniques related to administrative and financial record keeping, databases, text processing, reporting, and presentations. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated proficiency in Google Suite Apps Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing tasks and priorities. Ability to set priorities for accomplishing work in a timely and effective manner Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor or Associate Degree in Human Resources or closely related field or certification in Human Resource Management strongly preferred. Three or more years of experience working in human resources, preferably in a school environment or as a senior level administrative assistant with progressive responsibilities which includes the maintenance of confidential information may substitute for the academic work or certification.

The position offers a salary that is commensurate with experience and education. The District offers a full range of employee benefits, including major medical and dental insurance. A twelve (12) month work year is required.
