We are seeking an individual who can foster a dynamic and vibrant Youth Ministry and Children’s Ministry program at WCC. This individual will work with the Boards of Youth Ministry and Children’s Ministry to develop the best strategies, plans, and tactics to support this growing spirited environment. This individual provides spiritual, relational, organizational, and administrative leadership. This includes building relationships with children, youth, teachers, parents and church leaders to devise a learning process that will strengthen the commitment to the church and nurture youth’s and children’s self-esteem, responsible behavior, creative potential, care and respect for others and creation, love of God and biblical study and inquiry.
Develop and implement curriculum for a Christian education at age-appropriate levels.
Oversee the planning, organizing, and implementation of children’s Sunday school programs.
Plan and implement Sunday School classes for middle and high school students.
Plan and implement Confirmation classes for high school students, including activities aimed at Christian formation and creating long terms bonds between the student.
Provide a children’s message on Sunday Services.
Personnel Management – Recruit, train, coach and supervise part-time nursery, Sunday school, and Children and Youth Ministries staff, members.
Direct, lead, coordinate and consistently engage children, youth, and families in their spiritual formation and Christian education.
Create and implement structures to support a seamless transition from Children’s Ministry to Youth Ministry.
Preach and lead worship services occasionally.
Provide emotional and spiritual counseling to children, youth, and families.
Oversee the planning, organizing, and implementation of all special events (fellowship, fundraising, and community outreach).
Plan and implement youth group meetings (fellowship and local community service for high school and middle school students).
Youth Mission Trip - Oversee annual mission trip, including volunteer recruitment, training, and leadership, operational oversight, and Christian formation.
Develop and maintain relationships with volunteers and potential volunteers to support Children/Youth Ministries.
Recruit, train, and lead volunteers in their roles supporting the key areas of the ministries.
Develop, implement, and track church-wide Safe Church policies and procedures.
Annual Calendar - Plan and implement an annual calendar of activities and publish for families prior to commencement of the program year.
Communications - Provide and facilitate timely communication about Children/Youth Ministries programs to church members, parents, and the community to ensure and increase awareness of program activities and special events. Provide strong leadership and engagement with all children and youth in the program.
Participation - Track participation at all Children/Youth Ministry events. Analyze data for use in enhancing and developing programs and for goal setting.
General Oversite - Develop and track annual budgets. Ensure and maintain adequate supplies necessary for all children and youth programs. Develop and maintain relationships with key community partners, including Fairfield county churches, Wilton Public Schools, and area non-profits.
Masters in Divinity or other master’s degree in a related field is ordained or ordainable.
Has a vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth ministry and children’s ministry.
Excited to work with and engage with children and youth.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with youth, diverse individuals, & teams of volunteers.
Demonstrated ability to provide pastoral care in the realm of children’s and youth ministry.
Ability to embrace the United Church of Christ doctrine and theology.
Capable of operating without supervision (self-starter).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and conflict management skills.
Organized and able to multi-task.
Capable of supervising staff.
Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
