The Creative Services Manager will be the leader of our in-house creative services “agency”, managing full-time employees, external contractors, and outside agency resources in support of three brands: Line 6, Ampeg, and, as a subset of the larger Yamaha brand, Yamaha guitars. Functional areas of management include copywriting, photography, design, web production, video production, audio/music creation, event support, advertising (media buying, creative development), email, social media, SEO/SEM, and PR, as well as managing all budgets associated with the group’s output.
The Creative Services Manager will be responsible for working in close collaboration with the marketing strategy group—the Marketing Services group’s “clients”—to generate detailed tactical plans, and then supervise the execution of those plans. Output will be expected to align with the established strategy, meet quality and branding standards for each brand, and also meet all deadlines and coming in on-budget.
This is expected to be a “working manager” role, both overseeing the work of other and, at times, taking the reins and creating output in whatever individual contributor disciplines the successful candidate may bring to the table.
Develop tactical marketing plans in close collaboration with “clients” from the strategic planning group
Oversee execution of all marketing communications deliverables
Manage a team (both internal full-time and external contractors), as well as working with external agencies
Ensure that all internal clients are serviced professionally, and that all materials are developed and delivered with high quality, cost-efficiency and in a timely manner
Create and ensure a culture of creativity
Direct and manage activities of the Marketing Services team, providing leadership/motivation and conveying the vision and values of the marketing Services department to the wider organization
Act as a creative advisor to internal clients, providing strategic advice on targeting, positioning, concept, development and production of materials across a variety of media
Develop processes/strategies for continuous process improvement
Develop, coach and mentor direct reports
5+ years of experience in a progressive marketing communications environment, with management experience
3+ years of experience in the musical instruments/audio equipment industry is preferred
Experience working on the development of numerous types of marketing deliverables and services, including but not limited to copy, graphic design, web sites, email, advertising (print, online), SEO/SEM, video, photography, etc.
Experience working on developing client-focused marketing content, whether in an internal or external agency
Strong creative sensibilities
Awareness of current design, linguistic and other communication trends that are applicable to the musical instruments industry
Strong organizational skills
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to both manage and mentor
Ability to communicate with people at all levels of a broad corporate organization, ensuring that projects meet agreed timing requirements and quality requirements
Excellent customer service skills and instincts, with a drive to satisfy the business needs identified by internal clients
Proficiency in Mac OSX, standard internet/mobile functionality, and Microsoft Office
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with people of varied personality types and cultural backgrounds
Proficiency of any kind in the Japanese language and experience interacting in a Japanese business culture are a plus
