As the ATSS (Communications/Weather), performs a variety of functions directly related to the operation of the NAS. Provides technical support to the operations managers as required for efficiency and continuity of NAS operations. Focuses on the availability and reliability of the services and products provided to users of the NAS. The position is concerned with the applications of the systems through which those services are provided. Performs a variety of functions directly relating to the operations of the NAS. Listens to field concerns, develops and implements coordinated solutions, and ensures follow through with customers. Determines whether the majority of the services, systems, or subsystems are operating (or capable of operating) within applicable parameters and specifications. Determines the technical acceptability of status thereof. Provides appropriate systems and service certification as required by agency policy and guidelines. Decisions and recommendations involve major segments of the NAS which extends beyond the District boundaries. Initiates action for the timely repair or restoration of services and systems, taking into account the availability of back-up systems, possible reconfigurations to minimize service interruptions, and the relative criticality of particular functions to the safe and efficient operations of services and systems throughout the area of geographic responsibility of the position. Travel is required.

To qualify for this position, applicants must have the following:
Specialized Experience: Applicants must provide a resume which demonstrates possession of the specialized work experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility appropriate for the position. Specialized experience is experience that demonstrates extensive knowledge and experience in technology system interrelationships, and management of civilian or military automated aviation, navigation and electronics systems. Generally, experience at the next lower level (pay band H/Career Level III or equivalent) meets the minimum qualification requirements as long as the experience supports the Demonstrated Abilities identified below. Career Level III experience consists of planning, coordinating, and performing work with a high degree of independence. Work requires extensive knowledge of the technology, systems interrelationships, and management of the NAS. In addition, applicants must meet the Selective Placement Factor as described within this announcement.
